Loan risk ranks

Each PPP loan is ranked against all PPP loans by traits it shares with publicly charged cases: High = top 1%, Elevated = top 2%, Watch = top 5%. These are risk indicators, not accusations. See the methodology for sources, accuracy and false-positive rates.

Caught cases (top bar) lists 239 publicly charged PPP loans with their DOJ press releases and how V-Finder scored each one, including the misses. Filter by state, size, or flagged/missed; open any loan’s full detail and related loans.

Gap Closer (top bar) lists, for each type of fraud V-Finder misses, the non-public data that would catch it, who holds it, and the flag it would add. It is an invitation for agencies and states to plug in their own data.

1. Pick a place

Use State to narrow the list. Type a county name or 5-digit FIPS into County A and tap a match. County B is optional, for side-by-side comparison. Tapping a table row or a map county also sets County A.

2. Read the table

Counties in view lists 50 counties at a time; tap Show more for the next 50. Tap a column name to sort. Colored numbers flag unusually high values. “z” (z-score) means how far a county is from the average: 0 = typical, 2 or more = unusual.

3. Map

Colors follow the Shade menu. On phones the map is off until you tap Load map, and it shows one state to save memory; Show full US loads everything (heavier). Tap a county to make it County A.

4. Spider chart

Each spoke is one measure, ranked 0–100 against all counties shown. Farther out = higher. Solid blue line = County A, orange = County B, dashed purple = the state median. Cards below spell out the value, rank, and gap vs the state. Untick a legend item to hide that line.

5. Loan dig (Records)

Lists PPP loans (or records from another source chosen in Source) for County A, 25 per page. Tick NAICS 722 to show restaurants only. It loads when you scroll to it.

6. Auditor overlays

Turn on extra Datasets (SAM exclusions, OFAC, SBA 7(a), FEC, and more) to add their numbers to the table, map, and spider. County audit compares those sources for County A and flags matches by UEI, CAGE, or name.

7. Style

Cyber, Basic, or White in the top bar changes the look. Your choice is remembered on this device.

Data is read-only. Numbers are screening signals, not findings of wrongdoing.
